Mahogany TV Feature Wall Unit
Our client needed a carpenter to build him a TV wall unit in his brand new house in Drogheda, Co. Louth. The feature wall was made with mahogany veneer and MDF. The client showed me a couple of different photos of the style he was looking for, and we decided on a design. We also decided that mahogany would be the best choice of wood veneer because it was closest to the colour he wanted. Mahogany is also far cheaper than walnut or oak.
He wanted slats on the right-hand side panel with an open space directly below it. He wanted the left-hand side panel to be flat and to have drawers below it. The legs at the bottom of the unit were set back so the unit would look as if it was floating.
The surround and counter were made from MDF and painted with Fleetwood Satin Wood paint (Bitter Chocolate). We also made three floating shelves from MDF, painted them the same colour (Bitter Chocolate) and fixed them to the wall on the left.
I got in contact with Anthony regarding few carpentry work for my new house, he gave me an exact quotation, the price was affordable. He did exactly what I was expecting, materials used was of good quality. Looking forward in future to work together. Highly recommended!
All the mahogany veneer was dyed with Colron Deep Mahogany dye and varnished with Ronseal Diamond Hard Matt varnish.
The inside of the drawers was made from 18mm Cambrian oak melamine faced board. The drawer fronts were made from mahogany veneer. The handles were made from solid Sapele mahogany, which was also dyed and varnished.
We also made modifications to the wardrobes upstairs and in the kitchen, two floating shelves on the other side of the living room and arranged for an electrician to relocate the sockets.
Inside the three wardrobes upstairs, we put dividers down the middle of them with four shelves on the right-hand side and two shelves on the left-hand side with a clothes rail above them.
